Tasting notes
FINE+RARE, Nov 2022

This vineyard is just opposite Mazis-Chambertin. Heresztyn-Mazzini’s vines are around 40 years old, and they used 30% whole-bunch on the cuvée in 2021. The resulting wine is floral and pretty with bright red fruit. The palate provides a pleasing contrast, with surprising density and an almost chewy texture – much more serious than the nose suggests. There’s a crushed-rock minerality and salinity, glossed over by pure, fleshy dark cherry fruit.

The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin La Perrière 1er Cru, blended with 30% whole bunches, works splendidly on the nose with delineated red berry fruit, crushed stone and light rose petal scents. This is very classic in style. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, fresh and cohesive, the whole bunches neatly subsumed with quite a lively, satisfying finish. Excellent.
