This wine, named in honour of David’s son, Louis Auguste, comes from higher-altitude sites and some of the domaine’s oldest vines (over 55 years in age). In 2021, it’s spicy and lifted – offering a mouthful of pure, crunchy red fruit. It’s fresh and mouth-watering, building to a savoury, smoky finish. Superb value.

Pale garnet. More focus and fruit than many 2021 reds from lesser AOCs. Oak is slightly obvious, so it’s not for purists; but if I were a restaurant buyer, I’d be tempted.

Domaine David Duband is based in the village of Chevannes, in the heart of the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits to the west of Nuits-Saint-Georges. The domaine produces wines from 23 prestigious appellations, from Nuits-Saint-Georges to Gevrey-Chambertin.
