The 2021 Morey-Saint-Denis La Riotte 1er Cru has a vivid and lively bouquet with effervescent red fruit laced with minerals. This positively leaps from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, a keen line of acidity, fresh and tensile with a bright, peppery finish with ample salinity to get the saliva flowing. An excellent La Riotte.

This is also relatively perfumed with its notes of violet, red and dark berries if perhaps not quite as pretty and airy as the nose of the La Combe d’Orveau. There is fine mid-palate volume to the seductively textured, round and vibrant medium-bodied flavors that possess very good richness before culminating in a dusty, austere and sneaky long finish. This should benefit from a few years of keeping and then be approachable young if desired

Tank sample. Mid ruby. Darker fruits, more raspberry and black cherries. Less expressive than the Combe d’Orveau. (MH)
