Score 92/100 · Drink 2010-2026, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, Mar 2017

The 2006 Cote Rotie Seigneur de Maugiron sports a healthy ruby color as well as outstanding notes of black raspberries, black currants, olives and spice. Completely destemmed and brought up in 70% new barrels, it has a polished, rounded texture, no hard edges, and sweet tannin, with no hints of its oak elevage. This is a beautiful Cote Rotie that’s drinking great today, yet will evolve nicely for a decade.

Opaque ruby. Exotically perfumed bouquet of wild strawberry, redcurrant, minerals, potpourri, Asian spices and herbs. Lively red fruits dominate the palate, with a tangy bite of minerals adding urgency and lift. Fat-free but packed with flavor, and balanced to age.

Inky ruby. Fresh red berries, smoky bacon and baking spices on the nose. Zesty raspberry and cherry flavors are firmed by youthful tannins, with impressively vibrant minerality adding lift and freshness to the finish. "What I like about Cote-Rotie is that you get density with suppleness," Grange told me.
