Medium red. Smoky brown spices, wild herbs, wild raspberry on the classic Morey-Saint-Denis nose. Shows a suave texture on entry, with an enticing balance of wild red fruits, spices, dried flowers and earth underscored by sound acidity. Firmly tannic but not a powerhouse. Showing no easy sweetness today but this wine may well drink early. Dark berries and violet on the aftertaste.

The 2014 Morey St Denis 1er Cru la Riotte has a very expressive, mineral-driven bouquet with just a dash of black pepper coming through with aeration. The palate is lively on the entry with grippy tannin, tightly wound red berry fruit with a structured, quite masculine, stony-faced finish that should lighten up once in bottle. Even then, one can see how it gains vigor in the glass and attains wonderful focus.
