Score 87-89/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Aug 2017

Light-medium yellow. White peach, flowers, mint and white pepper on the delicate nose. Suave and refined, offering more white than yellow fruits. Conveys decent depth and harmonious framing acidity and an impression of moderate concentration. This fruit was picked at 11.8% potential alcohol and chaptalized to 12.6%, according to winemaker Van der Moere. An elegantly styled Chablis with good length.

The 2016 Chablis 1Er Cru Montmains is matured in a mix of 50-100 hectoliter foudres (one-third) and stainless steel vats (two-thirds). It has an attractive if light apple peel and fresh pear-scented bouquet that needs some encouragement from the glass. The palate is balanced and fresh with well-judged acidity. There is a slight tang of quince in the background and it sports a fine, quite saline finish. It should be ready to drink straight from bottling, but should give six to eight year's drinking pleasure and possibly more.
