Opaque ruby. A seductively perfumed bouquet evokes mineral- and spice-accented red and blue fruits, peony, vanilla and incense, along with a botanical herb nuance and a hint of black pepper. Broad and fleshy but distinctly lively on the palate, offering intense Chambord, cherry-cola, fruitcake, floral pastille and exotic spice flavors that show outstanding clarity and back-end lift. Smooth, steadily building tannins add shape to an extremely persistent finish that echoes the mineral and floral notes.

The 2020 Côte Rôtie Lancement has more black fruits as well as some classic Côte Rôtie floral and mineral notes. This vineyard normally yields a more ethereal, feminine wine, but this is a powerful, dense, stacked barrel sample with plenty of fine grained tannins and a great finish.

Darker fruited and more intense, the full-bodied 2020 Cote Rotie Lancement delivers layers of black olive, blackberry and mocha flavors. Almost creamy in feel across the mid-palate, with a rich, velvety finish, this looks to be the star of the Garon cellar in 2020.
