Livera's 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Village is showing nicely, offering up a rich bouquet of cassis, plums and berries framed by a generous application of toasty oak. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and nicely concentrated, with powdery but abundant tannins and superb depth at the core, it's lively and charming but also built to last. This is a fine effort from an address that clearly merits a visit.

From vines near the winemaker’s home, near the village, the 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Village reveals a more ruby/purple color to go with terrific notes of black raspberries, peppery herbs, gunflint, and earth. It starts out more black-fruited, yet with time in the glass shows more red fruits and well as floral notes. Beautifully balanced and elegant, with terrific tannins, this is an impressive, medium to full-bodied, balanced Gevrey that is well worth seeking out. It will benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and keep for 15-20 years.

Not yet racked. 100% destemmed. Barrel sample. Deepish cherry red. Beautifully fragrant with cherry fruit and a slight stony/mineral character. Again, those powder-fine tannins creating a light-bodied but elegant whole. (JH)
