FINE+RARE, Apr 2023

This is the 21st vintage from Nicolas Thienpont and David Suire (of Ch. Laroque), and it’s a superb wine this year. The nose is bright – filled with juicy red fruit, leading on to a bright, super concentrated, tightly packed palate, with a polished framework of tannins. There’s a plushness to the core of fruit, but it’s also beautifully fresh. Blend: 86% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc

The 2022 Larcis Ducasse has a lovely bouquet, with ebullient red berry fruit laced with crushed stone. Very well integrated oak. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, a fine bead of acidity, bright and vivacious with a mineral-driven finish. It will require time, but it will be worth the wait. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting in London.

This is marked by the chalky tannins, which are very cohesive and caressing. The ripe and dry year gave a more savory character to the wine, with notes of mussel shells, fine spices and dried orange peel coloring the fruit. Medium to full body with a compressed mouthfeel from the vibrant, powdery tannins. Drink or hold.

Less super-ripe than was sometimes the case in the past, the 2022 Larcis Ducasse has a completely seductive bouquet of cassis, mulberries, licorice, pencil lead and menthol, combining beautiful spices and dark berries. Medium to full-bodied, layered and enveloping, it's seamless and concentrated with a multidimensional core of fruit, velvety tannins, a vibrant mid-palate and a long, saline finish.
