The 1976 Chambertin Grand Cru is similar to the one poured at the vertical the previous year. A lovely nose offers ample red fruit intermixed with undergrowth, marine notes and touches of old antique furniture. The palate is well-balanced with just that telltale sign of warmth indicative of the growing season. The 1976 is not a profound or immeasurably complex Chambertin, yet it's simply delicious to imbibe.

The 1976 Chambertin Grand Cru has an attractive bouquet, vestiges of red fruit, undergrowth, mahogany bureau and a very light sea spray notes, verging on chlorine. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, nicely poised. You can tell a little heat from the summer percolating through on the finish and I would not describe it as "complex". Yet like many 1976s, this has held up well with a lovely white pepper note emerging on the rooibos tea-tinged finish. A success in the context of the vintage. Tasted at the Rousseau Chambertin vertical at La Vienne.
