The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Aux Combottes opens in the glass with aromas of cassis, plums, rose petals and spices. Medium to full-bodied, supple and charming, it's fleshy and enveloping, with a seductive, giving personality that belies its depth and concentration.

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Combottes 1er Cru is located just under Clos de la Roche but on free-draining sandier soils. This is one cuvée where I feel that the aromatics suggest some over-maturity, light tinned prune notes tincturing the red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet candied entry, kirsch and orange zest, pretty on the finish but missing the intellect of other vintages of Combottes that I have encountered from Lignier over the years.
