The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru is the usual assemblage of vines in La Perrière and Crepiot. It has a slightly sullen bouquet at the moment, more introverted than the Gevrey Village. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins. Quite elegant in style and very harmonious, leading to a piquant finish that lingers. Understated... but effective!

As usual, the 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru is a blend of Craipillot and Perrières—and, as I've written before, Perrières seems to dominate the cuvée's personality. Bursting with aromas of cherries, raspberries, peonies and orange rind, framed by hints of truffle and espresso roast, it's medium to full-bodied, lively and precise, built around filigree tannins and bright acids. Open and expressive, this cuvée is especially elegant this year.
