The 2018 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Les Millandes offers up aromas of cherries, dark chocolate, smoked meats and cinnamon, followed by a medium to full-bodied, rich and earthy palate that's a bit firmer on the back end than the Gevrey premiers crus, seemingly more marked by its time in new oak. This cuvée is often a bit backward at this stage, so let's see how it performs in bottle.

Pretty with sweet red fruits. Intensely sweet red cherry. Very firm and grippy on the palate – not what I expected. Tough and a bit oaky on the finish. Needs a lot more time, assuming it will come round. (JH)
