Score 92/100 · Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Aug 2022

The 1928 Climens has a deep amber hue with pale straw rim. The bouquet is very refined and complex, quite detailed with barley sugar, dried mango and suggestions of chlorine. Perhaps it does miss the intensity of a truly great Sauternes from this vintage. Nevertheless, the palate is assertive and vibrant with barley sugar, tangerine, mandarin and dried mango. This has an impressive level of botrytis, sclean and focused on the finish. This is a lovely, fully mature, venerable Château Climens, but it is not hors classe. Tasted November 2009 at the Château Climens vertical in Zurich. (NM)
