Score 89-91/100 · William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Feb 2020

From eight different lieux-dits and averaging over sixty years of age, Boillot's 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Village reveals aromas of red cherries, cassis and sweet soil tones, followed by a medium to full-bodied, succulent palate with fine concentration and chalky structure. It's a fine Gevrey in the making.

Very ripe, slightly stewed fruit. I am not sure if it is the sample or late picking but it is a bit tired on the palate and the tannins dominate the finish. Not for the long term, I think. (JH)

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Village comes from eight parcels populated by vines that are 50 to 85 years old. It has a pleasant bouquet of raspberry and crushed strawberry fruit, plus a touch of vanilla pod in the background. The palate is chewy on the entry. A grippy and rather foursquare Gevrey-Chambertin that needs to manifest more charm and personality toward the finish by the time of bottling.
