Score 89/100 · Drink 2018-2026, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Oct 2017

Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, Boillot's 2014 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru les Champonnet feels a little volatile on the nose and this jars against the otherwise pretty tart red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, nicely weighted in the mouth with a mixture of red and black fruit, although the linear and straight-laced finish feels a little clipped and the aftertaste is shorter than I would have liked. Tasted September 2017.

Real lift on the nose of this but on the palate it lacks focus, alas. Stodgy. Really very tough on the palate. (JR)

Clear medium red. Reticent aromas of cherry, berries and minerals. Fleshy and creamy-sweet in the manner of the better 2014s but with sound acidity giving the red fruit flavors a juicy quality and noteworthy finesse. This concentrated, fine-grained wine boasts lovely subtle sweetness and a long, building finish."Never a powerful style," notes Boillot.
