A lovely cuvée from this prime hillside lieu-dit is the 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles. Wafting from the glass with notions of cassis, wild berries, forest floor, violets and dark chocolate, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and concentrated, with lively acids, melting tannins and a long, saline finish. This has turned out brilliantly.

Cask sample. Mid to deep cherry red. Glowing with health. Deep and open in its dark-red fruits with just a hint of peony adding a delicate top note and a whiff of peppery spice – but it’s the fruit that sings. Sweeter on the palate and so silky. Fresh, fine-boned, persistent. Shows the uniqueness of the best burgundies. (JH)
