The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Carrières is showing superbly this year, wafting from the glass with notes of cherries, raspberries, spices, raw cocoa and rose hips. Medium to full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, it's lively and concentrated, concluding with a long, mineral finish. This has turned out especially well and ranks as one of the finest renditions to date of this de facto monopole (since neither of Les Carrières two other proprietors bottle it as such).

Overt, creamy oak, with perfumed red fruit. Fine, pretty firm tannins, but lots of classic Chambolle perfumed elegance. Fairly long, flinty finish. (TJ)

The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Les Carrières 1er Cru has a backward, almost surly bouquet at the moment, featuring dark berry fruit, hints of licorice and cedar notes. The medium-bodied palate offers sappy red fruit, quite succulent and fleshy, with blueberry, black currant and a light sprinkling of white pepper on the finish. Good persistence here. Impressive.
