Inky violet color. A smoky mineral top note and a building suggestion of pungent flowers complement cassis, blackberry, olive and licorice. Chewy and broad on the palate, offering concentrated dark berry preserve, cherry-cola, smoky bacon and candied violet flavors that show strong energy and firm tension. Finishes very long and smoky, with gripping tannins and resonating floral and spice notes. Made with 50% whole clusters and 50% new oak.

The 2019 Côte Rôtie Côte Rozier is also concentrated and rich, yet it has a more lifted, elegant, fresher style in its plum and flowery, peppery incense aromatics, medium to full body, building tannins, and great finish. It doesn't have the sheer wealth of fruit to buffer its structure like the La Brocharde and needs at least 4-5 years in the cellar to round into form. It's impressive, nevertheless.

100% Syrah. 30% whole bunch. Aged for 26 months in 300-litre barrels (50% new). Cask sample. Tasted blind. A mineral earthy suggestion with spiced oak notes. Really vibrant fruit core with good zip and vitality, fine firm tannins complement a saline-infused sweet blue-fruit palate. Layered and textured and shows excellent intensity. Feels really alive and fresh but needs a couple of years to knit. (AC)
