The 2015 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is showing quite a lot of glossy new oak on the nose, but there is plenty of seductive, pure red fruit tucked in just behind. The palate is again quite oaky and savory, displaying a fine line of acidity and showing perhaps more winemaking than terroir . Dried blood and a touch of liquorish emerge toward the finish. Fine, but it could be better. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Unusually, this sample seemed a little tired. Dry finish and not enough follow-through. I have scored it but no great weight should be attached to my score. (JR)
