Lively round and ruby. Thick and dense and dry. Pretty hard work. Metallic thread. Desperately needs food but I’m not sure it will be redeemed even by food. (JR)

This is a remarkably good wine in the context of what was the worst vintage of the decade, primarily because it manages to remain well-balanced, does not reflect undue age of the fruit and is actually enjoyable, something that is relatively rare for most '94s today as poor examples are dominated by green finishing tannins. While by no means a great wine, this is truly an excellent wine for the vintage that is drinking well now but should continue to do so for several more years to come.
