The 2019 Echézeaux Grand Cru, from the négoce side of Duroché, did not quite engage on the nose; it felt rather surly and lacked the intensity that I found in other Echézeaux this vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, very harmonious and silky in the mouth, with a tinge of balsamic toward the finish. A well-crafted Grand Cru without the je ne sais quoi that I found on other cuvées from the domaine.

Farmed by Marianne’s father. 10–20% whole bunch. One barrel. Tank sample. A real intensity and vigour to this wine. Real juice and depth. Long and racy. Vigorous and lengthy with savour and succulence. Quite polished. (JR)
