FINE+RARE, Apr 2024

This is so pretty and juicy on the nose, with blackberry and black plum, as well as wild bramble fruit, tea leaf, graphite and tobacco. Again in 2023, this is a very solid wine that once again punches above its weight. It has a well-built structure with fantastic density of fruit, 13% alcohol and grippy, lingering tannins that promise many years of ageing potential. Blend: 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc

Deep purple-hued, the 2023 Domaine De Chevalier is a rich, concentrated, classic Graves from this great estate. Smoky blackcurrants, tobacco leaf, damp earth, and graphite all shine on the nose, and it's medium to full-bodied, with ample mid-palate depth, building tannins, and outstanding length. This aristocratic, classy, age-worthy Domaine de Chevalier deserves 3-5 years of bottle age and will cruise over the following 30 years or more. Drink 2028-2055.

The 2023 Domaine de Chevalier is terrific. Silky, aromatic and elegant, the 2023 is a fine effort for the year. Crushed flowers, pomegranate, blood orange, cinnamon and dark raspberry all build in the glass. The 2023 does not quite reach the level of the very best vintages, and yet it has a lot to offer. Time brings out lovely minerality, energy and persistence. I loved it. Tasted three times.

The 2023 Domaine de Chevalier has a very refined and focused bouquet with blackberry, black olive and light tobacco scents that discreetly unfold in the glass. Wonderful delineation and sense of classicism. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit. Good body and grip, a symmetry here that is almost unique among the Pessac-Léognan '23s tasted. Beautiful. NB: A second bottle at the château was tighter and more backward, suggesting a long-term Domaine de Chevalier.
