The 2011 Gevrey-Chambertin Petite Chapelle impresses for its feminine, gracious personality. Here the fruit is a bit more red-tone, whole floral notes are quite prominent, even though Dugat used fewer whole clusters here (35-40%) than he did in many of his other wines. Silky tannins support the persistent, nuanced finish. This is Gevrey with a Chambolle accent.

(40% vendange entier): Full red-ruby. Slightly medicinal aromas of blackberry, violet, licorice and gibier, plus a hint of sexy sweet spices. Large-scaled but not at all heavy, offering noteworthy finesse and delineation to its dark fruit flavors. Finishes with serious tannins and a touch of back-end dryness. Dugat vinifies this wine with a relatively low percentage of stems as he "doesn't want to interfere with the feminine style of the cru."

40-50% whole bunch, 100% new oak. Very dark crimson. A little severe and medium intensity of fruit. Chewy and firm. Middling in terms of fruit versus tannins. No really strong message. Needs time. (JR)
