The 2000 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru is a delightful millennial offering from the Rousseau team, though it already shows some maturity in the glass. It has an open-knit, slightly herbaceous bouquet with light red berries, stewed black tea and dried herbs. The palate is underpinned by crisp acidity, a ferrous note at the beginning that runs through right to the end. It is fresh and poised, a little disjointed upon first acquaintance, but coalescing as the minutes pass. This is delightful, if not profound.

Medium red. Sweet aromas of black cherry, currant and minerals, brightened by some spicy oak. Sweet, classy and bright, with noteworthy finesse and good but not outstanding depth of flavor. A juicy wine that's already opening nicely. Finishes with sweet tannins and good length.
