The inky/purple-hued 2003 Cote Rotie Rose Pourpre possesses graphite, bacon fat, blackberry, cassis, and pain grille characteristics in its long, rich, full, peppery, dense, layered personality. Give it 1-2 years of bottle age and consume it over the following 12-15 years. Importer: David Hinkle, North Berkeley Imports, Oakland, CA; tel. (510) 336-9880

Full, saturated ruby. The freshest on the nose of these 2003 samples: blackberry, black licorice, roasted nuts and pepper. Fat, rich and full, with lively suggestions of violet pastille, licorice and spicy oak. The sound acids are nicely integrated and the flavors are pure and nicely defined. Still, this doesn't show the exotic floral character or minerality this wine normally displays in more classic vintages. Finishes with building, ripe tannins and a lingering note of licorice.

CS. Extremely deep coloured and wild : thick, tarry, sweet as mashed blackberries – even more dramatic than the Brune et Blonde bottling. Great stuff. (JR)
