The 2017 Cantelys is a very pretty, mid-weight wine. This Cabernet Sauvignon-based red offers tons of aromatic savoriness and energy to match its mid-weight personality. Dried flowers, mint, rose petal and inky red, purplish berry fruit come together in the glass. The 2017 is a very pretty wine, especially for drinking over the next few years. The 2017 has turned out very nicely.

Based on 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot, the medium-bodied 2017 Chateau Cantelys has attractive earthy dark fruits, violets, and chocolaty, herbal nuances in a silky, easygoing package. It’s not terribly concentrated, so I’d lean toward enjoying bottles over the coming 5-7 years or so.

The 2017 Cantelys was 60% destroyed by the frost. It has a gentle, clean bouquet with blackberry and bilberry scents, a light brine-like aromas hovering in the background with fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with strict, linear tannins. This felt a little compact compared to the Le Thil and I would just like to see it flesh out and gain more density towards the finish.

The 2017 Cantelys is terrific. Pliant and inviting, with generous inky blue/purplish fruit, Cantelys is super expressive today. Sadly, 60% of the crop was lost to frost. What made it through produced an unusually sumptuous, fruity Pessac-Léognan endowed with tons of near to medium-term appeal. The blend is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot.
