Lastly, and just about pure perfection in red wine, the 2020 Ermitage Le Méal will stand up with the crème de la creme of this vintage. This terroir always yields a riper, sexy style of wine, but this brings serious power and concentration, offering both black raspberry and darker currants fruits, some truffly earth, aged beef, and chocolate nuances, full body, building tannins, and a monster of a mid-palate. This stunning beauty is going to take a decade to shed some baby fat but will evolve for 15-30 years. Bravo.

Cask sample. Deep purple-black colour to the rim. Big and bold with a depth of layered fruit. Ripe and “solar” in its aromatics. Solid but refined tannic frame with firmness on the finish. Oak present but seemingly well integrated. Alcohol not too apparent. Clearly needs time. (JL)
