Score 88/100 · Drink 1996-2000, Robert Parker, Oct 1996

The 1994 Morey St.-Denis Les Ruchots Reserve Unfiltered exhibits a deep ruby color, a nose of jammy black-cherries, and sweet, toasty, smoky oak. It reveals an elegance and complexity similar to a Domaine Dujac wine, as well as medium body, and round, velvety-textured flavors. It should be drunk over the next 3-4 years. Domaine Arlaud is a Burgundy estate that possesses marvelous terroirs, but tends to do too much processing at bottling. This wine was tasted immediately after the vintage by David Hinkle and his French broker, Peter Vezan, and then purchased, and bottled to their specifications. Tasted side by side with Arlaud's regular cuvees, North Berkeley's unfiltered wines displayed far more complexity, sweeter fruit, and plusher, more intriguing textures.
