Score 96/100 · Drink 2027-2050, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Jun 2022

The dark ruby-colored 2013 Pinot Noir Malans Unique is perfectly deep, pure, intense and spicy on the concentrated nose that is reminiscent of ripe, thick-skinned cherries, black berries and iodine notes. Lush yet refined on the silky-textured palate, this is a supple, very intense, sweet and warm but also finessed and elegant Pinot with ripe and delicate tannins intermingled with crystalline acidity. The 2013 is tight and powerful yet vital and vibrantly fresh, revealing an almost monstrous structure paired with Burgundian finesse. The finish is pure and saline and already stimulating, but this is a wine to keep for at least five years. In fact, it closes down after a while in the bottle; so again, be patient and don't uncork your 2013s too early! This Unique is a stellar wine and one of the greatest made so far. 13.5% stated alcohol. Tasted from magnum in Zurich, April 2022.
