Tart melon, lemon curd, crushed stone, and some minty herb notes all emerge from the 2021 Château Olivier Blanc, a terrific medium-bodied white based on 80% Sauvignon and 20% Sémillon. It will keep for at least 7-8 years, although I see no need to delay gratification.

The 2021 Olivier Blanc has a complex bouquet, much more-so than the red, with orange blossom, orange pith, hints of chamomile and light waxy scents. The palate is very well-balanced with a keen line of acidity, taut and fresh with a brightness on the finish that is very appealing. This is a white Pessac with pedigree, and it should drink well for 15 to 20 years.

The 2021 Olivier Blanc is an attractive, effusive dry white. Tangerine peel, mint, passionfruit, jasmine and peach are nicely amplified. Tropical overtones add an exotic flair to the bracing finish. I especially admire the aromatics here.

Excellent in bottle as it was En Primeur, with Sauvignon Blanc-dominant armomatics, mouthwatering slate, apple and white pear, elderflower and wet stones. The body of the wine is slim and savoury, finessed and charming. Harvest September 8 to 16, Lauren Lebrun director.

Square Chateau Olivier
Olivier

Ch. Olivier is one of the few actual castles in Bordeaux – coming with a moat and drawbridge. Since Alexandre de Bethmann took over here in 2012, the château has been given a new lease of life, with quality on the rise.
