Red-ruby. Rustic, expressive aromas of red fruits and leather. Good juicy, peppery syrah, with hints of wild herbs. Finishes with good length and cut. Very easy to drink.

The most serious example since the brilliant 1999, the 2001 La Rosine Syrah VDP (fashioned from 14-year old vines) exhibits a deep ruby color in addition to a spicy, plump bouquet revealing scents of black currants, raspberries, Asian spice, licorice, pepper, and herbs. Soft, round, and delicious, it should drink well for 4-5 years, possibly longer. Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; tel. (202) 832-9083

Bright red-ruby. Pure aromas of raspberry, pepper and leather. Juicy, fresh flavors of red berries and pepper, with lovely integrated acidity. Not a particularly deep wine but the tannins are ripe and round. Should offer early pleasure.
