The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Echézeaux is superb, roaring from the glass with an attractively old-fashioned bouquet of wood smoke, dark chocolate, sweet cigar tobacco, cherries and plums. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, supple and deceptively open-knit, its expansive attack giving way to a rich core of fruit, framed by melting tannins, and concluding with a long, sapid finish. This is already utterly delicious, but I suspect it will continue to drink well for fifteen years.

Cask sample. Deep cherry red. Fresh cherry fruit on the nose here – smells fresher than the other Jouan wines in the line up so far. Ripe and lively on the palate. Juicy, firmly textured. (JH)

Domaine Henri Jouan - producer
Philippe Jouan

The wines of Henri & Philippe Jouan fly under the radar – and, with the current quantities produced (from just three hectares of vines), this is unlikely to change any time soon.
