Score 88/100 · Drink 2025-2035, Neal Martin, Oct 2025

The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Goulots 1er Cru has a nose that feels a bit pushed along in the winery and does not quite compensate for the lack of complexity and nuance. Perhaps it will develop into something more interesting with time? The palate is medium-bodied with grainy, slightly rigid tannins. Drier than its peers, it attenuates and feels comparatively linear and a bit raw on the finish. Compromised by the challenges of the growing season, though not totally without merit, I would drink this over the next decade. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Blended with 30% whole bunches and 30% new oak, the 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Goulots 1er Cru is a little backward and reticent on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, nicely balanced yet the La Perrière has more depth and vibrancy on the finish by comparison. Still, this should give 12-15 years' drinking pleasure.
