Pale, bright gold. Powerful aromas of fresh pear and Ruby Red grapefruit, along with hints of vanilla and smoky lees. Pliant, well-concentrated citrus and orchard fruit flavors are accompanied by suggestions of sweet butter and a building mineral nuance. Closes on an appealing note, with solid thrust and lingering mineral, citrus pith and pear notes. Made with whole bunches and raised in an 80/20 combination of stainless steel tanks and neutral demi-muids .

Lightly nutty and preserved-lemon notes appear on the nose of the 2018 Crozes Hermitage Blanc la Matinière, an all-Marsanne bottling. It's medium to full-bodied and fleshy across the mid-palate, then finishes crisp, with hints of underripe pineapple.

The 2018 Crozes-Hermitage La Matinière Blanc was reductive and slightly hard to read, yet had medium-bodied depth and richness as well as solid length. Give bottles 6-12 months of bottle age, when I expect it will show a more complete, balanced style. This tiny Northern Rhône estate continues to produce a colossal lineup of wines. While they pull from top estate terroirs around Hermitage and the Northern Rhône, they also have a large négoçiant line that’s loaded with values.
