Score 96/100 · Drink 2026-2036, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, Apr 2024

The 2021 Pintas has an impressive nose—open, extroverted, aromatic and floral, a little toasty and smoky. This is always produced from the same vineyard at 400 to 450 meters above sea level on schist soils. It's spicy and has some creaminess, but it feels balanced and has freshness and acidity to absorb the oak with more time in bottle. It matured in 225-liter barrels, 20% of them new, for 20 months. This vineyard is very consistent; the old vines have deep roots, and the high altitude contributes to the freshness—and the 2021 vintage also helps! 6,000 bottles produced.

Score 19/20 · Drink 2023-2035, Jancis Robinson MW, Nov 2023

The vineyard is around 90 years old and contains 40 different grape varieties. This wine is a field blend, destemmed and crushed by foot in granite lagars where it ferments for about 2 weeks before being moved to French oak barrels (50% new) where it spends 20 months before bottling. Inky opaque purple. Smells of black tea, dried flowers and boysenberries. Intense boysenberry and black-tea flavours mix with black cherry, crushed herbs and a hint of fennel. Muscular tannins wrap around the fresh, juicy core of fruit that vibrates with fantastic acidity and length. A hint of orange peel emerges in the finish. Powerful and complex, but without weight on the palate. Likely to age beautifully. (AY)
