Vines nearly 100 years old. Cask sample. Refined and elegant, this really needs a good 2–3 years to blossom. Quite restrained with tannins evident, together with dark-fruit flavour, some spice and a salty, mineral-driven finish. Concentration shows from the old vines. (AWH)

The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Racine du Temps Très Vieilles Vignes has a light nose, missing some terroir expression, a little rustic. The palate is medium-bodied with a spicy entry, dark berry fruit. Like the Marsannay it demonstrates strong stewed tea notes on the finish.

Domaine René Bouvier is a truly exciting estate in Marsannay – and one of a handful of properties bringing greater attention to a village once best known for its rosé.
