The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 1er Cru also has a reduction like Henri Boillot's Clos de la Mouchère, but here it is much better handled and allows the terroir to shine through. Leading with touches of yellow plum and jasmine, the aromatics meliorate in the glass. The palate is very well balanced, with a fine bead of acidity. Crisp and tensile, this has more mineralité and terroir expression than the three preceding Pulignys combined, remaining vibrant and complete through the persistent, sapid finish. Excellent. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Referts wafts from he glass with notes of pear, lime, iodine, fresh bread and nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied, layered and textural, with an ample and gourmand core of fruit that's girdled by lively acids and fine structuring extract.

The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 1er Cru has a tightly wound, wet limestone and gunflint scented bouquet that is very well focused. The palate is well balanced with an intense opening, well-knit but just missing a little tension and energy on the finish. Not bad, but maybe I expected more from this cuvée.
