FINE+RARE, Oct 2024

Jean-Marie owns just 0.26 hectares here, but the vines were planted in 1928. While many think the name comes from the French for cherry, it actually comes from “criotte” – referencing the vineyard’s chalk-accented soils. The poor soils produce a wine of exquisite delicacy – one that Fourrier describes as “the Musigny of Gevrey”. The 2023 offers a nose of sweet cherry perfume, but with an earthiness too. It’s a dainty wine, lace-textured and delicate, yet with glorious, pure red fruit that dances on the tongue. Concentrated and lively, the aromatics pirouette on the almost never-ending finish.
