Cask sample. Mid crimson. Deep aroma of pure dark fruit and a touch of oak spice. Smells wonderfully dark and rich. Deep, smoothly chewy, lots of matière (substance) for a 2023. Great balance between fruit and structure with a long, fresh finish. Definitely grand cru class as well as grand cru price. (JH)

The 2023 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru shows just a little reduction on the nose, but it gains intensity with aeration, developing violet and peony scents with time. The palate is medium-bodied and well balanced with fine tannins. There is a little more complexity and personality here than the preceding Clos Vougeot, with a sorbet-fresh finish. Give this four to five years in bottle. Good potential.
