Bright violet color. Livelier and more mineral-driven than the Cote Rozier, displaying scents of raspberry, cherry and potpourri, with a hint of iron. Becomes smokier with air and offers sweet red and dark berry flavors that are given spine by tangy acidity. Packs a punch but carries no excess weight, finishing with good cut and seductive spiciness.

Opaque purple. Spicy cherry and dark berries on the nose. Sweet kirsch and blackberry flavors provide very good palate coverage and are braced by tangy minerality. Silky tannins arrive on the finish, which is spicy, focused and nicely persistent. I like this wine's clarity and light touch. This juice may yet be blended into the normale

Darker and spicier and more brooding on the nose than the straight Côte Rôtie. But surprisingly light on the palate and juicy, with quite marked acdity. Sweetly rounded middle and not bad length. Tannins are present but easy already and fine grained. (JH)
