The 2018 Chablis Fourchaume 1er Cru, aged 15 months on the lees, has a pleasant nose of yellow peach and Conference pear. The palate is rounded and quite rich on the entry, almost Meursault-like, and a dab of ginger enlivens the finish. A very enjoyable early-drinking Fourchaume.

Fourchaume is one of 40 climats of premiers crus within Chablis; marly limestone soils. Pressed gently, part-fermented in 406-litre barrels with the remainder in steel. 13–15 months’ ageing on fine lees before bottling. Yellow fruits and ripe lemons on the nose. Broad and leesy on the palate. Quite pithy, with some chalky texture and a delicate spice. A little warm on the back end. (TP)
