Score 85/100 · Drink 2018-2020, Neal Martin, May 2019

The 2011 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes is noticeably dark in colour. It has a rather opaque bouquet with dense black cherry and boysenberry fruit, missing the terroir expression of its peers. The palate is rounded on the entry, quite extracted in style with chewy tannins uncommon in this vintage, solid but lacking some complexity on the finish. Tasted at Flint Wines Burgundy 2011 tasting.

Notably bright garnet. Really quite opulent in terms of fruit ripeness and weight. Crunchy sensation with quite a lot of acidity. Flattering. Ticks all boxes. (JR)
