Now we're talking! The 2009 Condrieu Coteaux du Vernon ranks up there with some of the greatest Condrieus I've ever had. Deep, rich, full-bodied and unctuous, it offers a kaleidoscope of Condrieu goodness in its honeyed apricot, lychee, crushed rocks, white flowers and sauteed peach aromas and flavors. Now at age 6, it's still as vibrant and fresh as the day it was bottled, yet it's gained even more depth and texture. Given its concentration and structure, if you're so inclined to age bottles, this is the one to pick.

Pale, greenish yellow. Wildly complex, mineral-dominated aromas of pear skin, nectarine, jasmine and ginger, with smoke and anise nuances building with air. Nervy and precise, with deeply pitched citrus and orchard fruit flavors reaching every corner of the palate. Really superb clarity and energy here. Lingers with admirable intensity on the spicy, floral finish.

A legendary name, Domaine Georges Vernay crafts some of the finest whites in the world, having championed Condrieu when it was on the brink of extinction. The estate is best known for its single-site Coteau de Vernon Condrieu and is now in the hands of the third and fourth generation of the family.
