(14.3% alcohol; aged in 40% new 600-liter demi-muids ): Bright medium ruby. Musky, smoky aromas of black raspberry, truffle and black olive complicated by a subtle earthy perfume; today the Syrah element dominates the nose. Plush, pliant and ripe, conveying a distinctly smoky quality and meat and truffle notes throughout. Nicely integrated wine with no rough edges, finishing with noteworthy length.

The 176-case 2014 The Lovers checks in as 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Syrah that was brought up all in 40% new barrels. The Cabernet shows beautifully here with its blackcurrants, graphite and dried herbs, with some meaty, smoky notes (no doubt from the Syrah) coming through on the background. A big, rich, impressively concentrated red, with building tannin and a great mid-palate, it's beautiful today but will be even better in 2-3 years and I suspect will have two decades of longevity.
