Despite being brought up in 100% new barrels, the 2006 Cote Rotie from Pierre Gaillard is a beautiful, classic Cote Rotie that comes all from the Cote Rozier lieu-dit. It has terrific complexity in its sweet red and black fruits, cured meats, spice and earthy, leathery aromas and flavors. Nicely concentrated, medium to full-bodied and balanced, it’s drinking beautifully today, yet I’m sure will evolve easily for another decade.

Quite transparent ruby. Heady, rich nose – almost a rugby-playing Côte Rôtie. Big bold mouthful delivering lots of ripe fruit and pleasure. Superripe tannins on the finish. (JR)
