2006 Domaine Frédéric Esmonin Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru

Red-ruby. Ripe aromas of blackberry, strawberry and game; less floral than the Mazis. Then suave, silky and sappy, with excellent richness to the flavors of small wild berries and smoked meat. This is quite complex and perfumed in the mouth but quickly closed up in the glass. Finishes firm and clean, with substantial dusty tannins and a brisk quality that titillates the taste buds. (91+?) This is also relatively sauvage but here it's more in a truffle and freshly turned earth character than game as in the Mazis with similar wild red berry fruit that merges into rich, sweet and agreeably supple flavors that offer good concentration and intensity on the mouth coating finish. Here there is a slight bit of finishing dryness but it is almost certainly the result of the mise as there is also a whiff of SO2 on the nose that should dissipate in a few months.
