The 2015 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru has a taut, malic bouquet that is more like a 2014 than a 2015. I admire the precision on display here. The intense palate is well balanced, displaying good salinity and depth and revealing hints of walnut on the Meursault-like finish. This is an intriguing, complex Chablis that should age with style. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The 2015 Chablis 1Er Cru Montee De Tonnerre is beautiful, with a charming, supple, rounded, and delicious style. Peach, lemon curd, a touch of minerality, and floral notes all emerge from this elegant, textured beauty that's already drinking great. It shows the ripeness of the vintage, has terrific purity, and a clean finish, all making an irresistible Chablis to drink over the coming 7-8 years.
(the first parcel harvested in 2016, on September 2): Exotic yet discreet scents of apple and fresh herbs, plus a faint lactic note. More open in the mouth than the Vaulorent; in fact, already generous even if its fruit tones are muted in the early going. Chewy, flinty, minerally wine with building pear fruit. Finishes with sneaky rising length. Doesn't show the normal austerity of this elite premier cru and yet this wine comes across as only moderately ripe. In fact, the estate had originally planned to pick this fruit on September 7 but had to bring it in quickly after the hailstorm.
