Score 95/100 · Drink 2028-2038, Josh Raynolds, Dec 2022

Glass-staining ruby. Intensely perfumed cherry and blackberry aromas are complemented by suggestions of licorice, candied flowers, olive paste and black pepper. Appealingly sweet and energetic on the palate, offering pliant cherry, dark berry preserve, exotic spice and floral pastille flavors that show impressive depth; a smoky mineral flourish gains strength on the back half. Shows superb energy and mineral thrust on the clinging finish, which is framed by velvety, slowly building tannins.

100% Syrah. Subtle. An understated yet concentrated wine with lovely sweetness of fruit, fine tannic structure, integrated oak. All the components here are in fine balance. Dark olives, sweetness of berry fruit. Intriguing mineral and floral finish. (AWH)

From vines slightly higher in elevation, the 2020 Cornas Granit 60 is similarly purple-hued and has more primordial aromas and flavors of blueberries, cassis, pepper, and scorched earth. It's more structured, mineral-laced, and austere, and is going to require patience.
