Score 89-91/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2007

Good deep ruby-red. Aromas of blackberry, violet and licorice pastille. Juicy, minerally and penetrating but tightly coiled and on the lean side, in need of long barrel aging. This seems a bit less ripe than Bouchard's best domain offerings (like the Charmes, this is purchased wine), as well as more heavily extracted, even brutal. Finishes with a note of licorice and some tough tannins.

CS Smoky spice, dark fruit. Very tight and tannins very fine and dry. Dense, young and rather hidden. (JH)
